Daemonia Nymphe, the esoteric ensemble formed in Greece, will be performing Saturday, August 9th on the Brukenthal Acoustic stage within this year’s ARTmania edition.

Their founder, Spyros Giasafakis, is the first artist known worldwide to compose and perform improvisations on ancient Hellenic instruments such as Kithara, Lyre and Varvitos – handcrafted with the design and materials authentic to their epoch. Due to the superb costumes and masks, attending a Daemonia Nymphe concert inducts the eerie sensation that the characters are stepping out from scenes on ancient attic vases.

They have performed and toured in numerous European countries and the ensemble’s presentations are also portrayed on tv documentaries, short films (Life in Five Acts) and DVD productions (Treasures of Athens and Olympia).

Melodically and visually speaking, their style has a universal appeal. Daemonia Nymphe have collaborated with international musicians such as Peter Ulrich (ex-Dead Can Dance), Dessislava Stefanova (London Bulgarian Choir), Alkinoos Ioannides, Psarantonis (Antonis Xylouris), Dimitra Galani, Alfa P(Stereo Nova), Louisa John Krol, Christian Wolz, Beefcake,Von Magnet and others.

Several compilations by European and other international labels include songs by Daemonia Nymphe which appeared along with tracks by artists such as Lisa Gerrard, Loreena McKennitt, Low and Ladytron. Daemonia Nymphe’s members are Spyros Giasafakis and Evi Stergiou and their instrument manufacturer is Nikolaos Brass.
