Dark Tranquility, the fifth band among the guests of 2010 ARTmania Festival playing for the first time in Romania,  has an impressive background. Tuning the metal to Gothenburg sound ever since ’89, Serj Tankian, Dark Tranquillity and Sirenia will be playing Saturday, August 14, 2010 in Piata Mare.

Dark Tranquillity offers an intense musical experience, bearing the mark of the natives’ Scandinavian roots. Their elevated music style was personalized and refined in over 20 years of metal experience and a great amount of studio productions.

In Flames and Dark Tranquillity are the royal highness of Gothenburg metal, world wide praised for creating the style. With time, many other bands joined the Gothenburg metal scene, despite of not originating in this Swedish town. Among these are the famous Insomnium, Eternal Tears of Sorrow and Arch Enemy.

Their debut album “Skydancer”, featuring Anders Friden (current front man of In Flames), was released in 1993. Former schoolmates of the band’s members interpreted acoustic guitars and female vocals. “The Gallery” is considered a classic album of the Gothenburg metal genre; in April 2010,the album is signed up in the charts of Decibel magazine. Third title, “The Mind’s I” has been a continuous presence in metal playlists since 1997.

Dark Tranquillity’s fourth studio album, “Projector”, received a Swedish Grammy Award nomination and marked a change in the band’s music style. 1999 was the year Dark Tranquillity added to their music more sophisticated vocals, introducing pianos and violins. “Haven” followed in the footsteps of its predecessor; the band shifting to a more digital sound approach witch brought them both fans and some negative reviews from the critics.

“Damage Done” returns the band to its original style, keeping the piano, albeit losing the “clear” vocals. “Character” (2002) and “Fiction” (2007) are the last albums featuring Mikael Niklasson as bass player, just before Daniel Antonsson took his place and joined the group.

In 2010, Dark Tranquillity presents “We are the Void”, a brand new album featuring vocals from Nell Sigland, the female voice of Theatre of Tragedy.

Dark Tranquillity confirmed their presence at ARTmania Festival 2010 from their Central and North American on-going tour. Their next 30 concerts are booked for the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Columbia, Venezuela, Peru, Chile, Uruguay and Argentina. During festival season, they will be playing at Metaltown in Sweden, Summer Breeze Festival in Germany and ARTmania Festival in Romania.
