First band confirmed for Saturday at ARTmania Festival 2010

Three bands confirmed until now: “the sisters of mercy”, Kamelot & Sirenia.

The third band for the first time in Romania is coming to ARTmania Festival 2010 to play Saturday, the 14th. Sirenia (Norway) sounds like a mixture of gothic metal and rock with classical influences, in addition to some elements from more extreme metal genres.

Sirenia was formed by Morten Veland in January 2001. Morten’s musical work was already well known through his work with his former band Tristania, a band he co-founded back in the mid nineties that played at ARTmania Festival 2009. Veland is the main songwriter and the brain of the band.

“At Sixes and Sevens” (2002), Sirenia’s first album continues in the same vein as Tristania’s Beyond the Veil, last one in their discography with Veland as a member. One big difference thou: feminine singer. Recorded with a new singer, Henriette Bordvik, “An elixir for Existence” (2004) this album continues in the same vein as the previous. “Nine Destinies And A Downfall” (2007) was released through Nuclear Blast. This album features 7-strings guitars that chug and growl, with a down-tuned texture not previously heard on Sirenia albums. On this album, the new female vocalist is front and center. Sirenia won and lost fans probably won more fans through a more extensive gothic metal approach. “The 13th Floor” (2009) is the fourth full-length album and first with Spanish vocalist Ailyn.

Sirenia sounds like a mixture of gothic metal and rock with classical influences, in addition to some elements from more extreme metal genres. Their sound has a solid base in the powerful drums and bass supported by massive rhythm guitars, dressed with atmospheric keyboards and spiced with melancholic violins and 12-string guitars. The vocal styles are diverse and consist of female vocals, choirs, growls, screams, clean male vocals, whispers and samples. The songs are very intense and the atmosphere changes frequently. The lyrics are based on reflections on life, death, love, hate, paranoia, anxiety and mental decline in general.

The band has been through some line-up changes over the years, but has now settled with a very strong line-up. In addition to Morten performing guitars and vocals the band consists of Ailyn: female vocals, Jonathan A. Perez: drums and Michael S. Krumins: guitars. The four artists from Sirenia will meet with their fans on August the 14th, 2010, 19:00 in The Large Square of Sibiu, Romania.
